| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Pours burgundy with a dense, beige head that leaves behind sticky lace. The aroma is chocolaty, sweet bread dough, much like chocolate devils food donuts with sweet fruity malt in the background (similar notes to some doppelbocks that I’ve sampled). Medium-bodied but fairly thin with a silky mouthfeel and a roasted, mildly bitter finish. Cocoa, coffee and roasted malt with a dry, earthy hop finish. This is a nice beer; worth trying if you enjoy this style. patrick767 (2058), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 21, 2008 bottle - Pours very dark brown with a medium sized tan head. There’s an aroma of roasted malt, toffee, and a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is of course of roast malt but has some nicely balanced hops lurking in the background too that lend a pleasantly dry finish. It’s medium bodied and leaves a little lingering roast flavor on the palate. Very enjoyable. blackmurder (170), sadf, Hawaii, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Updated: Oct 31, 2008On tap at Ebenezer’s (served in a huge mug!!) Poured an opaque black with a thick white head. Taste of pizza dough, bock goodness. I’ve never had a schwarzbier before and this reminded me of a dopplebock. A good beer, nice and refreshing. Easy to drink. 6/4/7/4/14
Update 10/31/08: Had this from a bottle and it tasted similar to how I remember so I will not add any new comments, but I thought it deserved slightly better than a 3.5 so I upped the aroma by 1 point. Nice drinking swartzbier! strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA
