Malty flavour, sort of a grain dominated dryness and a light roasted character. bhensonb (4287), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2007 50 cL bottle. Rich chocolate/coffee, dark malt aroma. Probably some nut. Essentially opaque brown/black color with a tan head that is strong and lacing. Medium bodied. Definitely coffee. Carbonation starts a bit strong. Then some medium darkly roasted malt. There seems to be enough hop bitter to show up clearly in the reasonably dry finish. It’s not super bitter, just there. Really tasty. Coffee and hop go great together. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 28, 2007 Bottle. Aroma starts out with toasted dark bread and nutty malt smells, faint herbs for the hops and an earth note for the yeast. The head is an off white which is rocky, fully lasting and with excellent lacing. Color is dark brown. Flavor starts off sweet and finishes lightly acidic. Palate is light/medium, between oily and watery with a lively carbonation. Finish is a little chalky. Nothing outstanding but definitely a tasty and unique beer for me. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2007 On tap at the Blind Tiger. Clear, dark brown color with a large beige head. Mild roasted malt aroma with strong nutty notes and a bit of caramel. Flavor was a mixture of hazelnuts, over-popped popcorn, caramel and toasted malt. Not a great beer, but enjoyable enough and went well with my chipotle pork nacho. Glouglouburp (2839), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 21, 2007 Dark mahogany body with a medium creamy beige head. Aroma of dark fruits. The taste is dominated by roastiness and dark fruits. The malt roastiness is dry and crunchy like very roasted almost burnt malt shells. The fruitiness is mainly about prunes and raisins and has that dried fruits crispness to it. The dry roastiness and dried fruitiness is wrapped in dusty yeast. The end result is a very dry beer. No hop presence whatsoever. Overall there’s nothing surprising or exiting here. Prototypical Scharzbier. As extravagant as a black t-shirt. Maverick34 (703), New York, USA
