Well carbonated, a good scattering of lace. Easy drinking mid mouthfeel, very drinkable. On the sweet side. Good brewery. IrishBoy (2716), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Magnificently rocky, coke-coloured pour with fragrant creamy suds. Slightly sourish, resiny, rye-bready nose. Creamy, chewy, slightly roasty rye-bready graininess with smoky afters. Not a million miles from the oyster stout I sampled earlier. 50cl bottle from the Rake thanks to Ian. Cereal. LOTS of it. A little off milk. Typical German really. The commercial description says it all really, only it’s not quite as good as they make out. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 20, 2007 Bottle. This beer has a strong sweet malt aroma with a slight citrusy sour tinge. It pours a medium dark "cola" colored brown with a frothy tan head that diminished quickly. The flavor is also malty with a slightly bitter roasted aftertaste and slight acidic bite with a bit of a chocolaty finish on a bitter note. The beer is a bit thin in the mouth and dry on the finish. Not bad but seems a bit flat on the finish, a little too watery and lacking strong flavors or complexity. mikey (336), farmington, Utah, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2007 Poured a deep mahogony with thick tan head. The nose was of chocolate, coffee, dark and toasty malts, and a distinct nutty character. The flavor started with dark roasted malts, with hints of cocoa and coffee. Carmel and hazelnut appear in the end with a mild bitter finish. The feel was Light with medium carbonation and a dry finish. This Schwarzbier was suprisingly low in alcohol (4.90% ABV). If you want a lighter, lower alcohol, less-hoppy beer that still is full of flavor than this is for you. blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 14, 2007 Pours clear deep brown with ruby glint. Thick, rocky beige head recedes leaving very nice lacing.
Aromas are primarily malt. The presence of molasses in the aroma is significant. There are also roasted, nutty, and toffee notes in the nose. Upon warming, some chocolate peeks through.
This beer is slick and chewy, yet with active carbonation. It’s got solid bitterness and no sweetness at all; it’s bone dry. The beer has a lot of flavor and a crisp, sharp, clean finish. Very pleasant.
