Chocolate, caramel and mild roastiness in sweet aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor is more traditional schwarz: roastiness and coffee dominate, also sweet caramally tones with chocolate. Aftertaste lasts with hopped and roasted tones, even some smoke there. Surprisingly crispy palated with some carbonation. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 3, 2006 500 ml bottle. Black beer with light ruby highlights and a thick off-white head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, cola and a bit of dry roastiness as well. Some lean toasted/caramelly malt flavour but the beer is definitely dry and refreshing. A touch of caramel, toast, and light roast. A hint of grassy hoppiness, but they’re mostly there to lend to the dryness of the finish. Refreshing brew. thornecb (1778), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Fluffy mocha colored micro head with good retention leaves sheet lacing as it recedes. Roasted chewy malts. Crisp and clean with a lasting smoked caramel finish. Highly drinkable. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 25, 2006 Dark brown, almost black, with a reddish tint and a short tan head. Dark chocolate and earthy aromas. Light flavors of roasted malts, coffee, peat and some hops added in for balance. Nothing overwhelming, just a good mix of flavors that make this easy to drink. Quick, dry, lightly bitter finish. Nel (180), Virginia, USA

Not what I had expected from this qualitybrewery, but maybe better luck in a reratesession. Weak and thin and far away from the Köstritzer level. brentfeesh (1038), Gadsden, Alabama, USA

Pours a clear mahogany color with a light and lingering head. Malty, whole grain aroma with a tinge of sharpness. Light molasses, toasted grain and light fresh grains (biscuit?) great you in the flavor. Creamy smooth mouth feel. A drinkable Schwartz bier.
