Pours a clear mahogany color with a light and lingering head. Malty, whole grain aroma with a tinge of sharpness. Light molasses, toasted grain and light fresh grains (biscuit?) great you in the flavor. Creamy smooth mouth feel. A drinkable Schwartz bier. troopie (904), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Draft pint at alehouse. Frothy head, light nose. Clear dark brown colour. Ringed even lace. Medium mouth, not overpowering but satisfying. Taste of malt and hops. Lingering, all over the tongue finish, some hop bite at the end. This is a fine session beer. It won’t befuddle you. harrisoni (6903), Ashford, Kent, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Updated: Feb 23, 2007Bottle - Bruxellensis Festival. Deep brown with thin beige head. Chocolatey malts and a bit of dark fruits. More malt on end. Nice Schwarz.
Re-rate. Didn’t know I had had this, so I bought it at The Rake in Southwark. This time I gave it 3.4/5.0. Spookily close to my original rating. Some charcoal, some good roasted flavours. Nice choc. Good refreshing Schwarz. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2006 Poured clear dark amber with fluffy off white to tan head. Nice caramel and slightly pale malt aroma. Nice lacing too. Tastes much the same as the aroma. Caramel malts, roasted malts and a hint of Munich or pale maltiness. Very nice. Great bottles for homebrew. diabel (1372), Aarschot, Belgium

Nice aroma of fine, sweet malts (caramel). Nicely balanced flavour: moderately bitter, lightly sweet. cab (863), Denmark
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 13, 2006 Bottle. I dont think it is that good, body is too light, color is too bright, aftertaste is too small. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 13, 2006 Poured a dark brown, small head not much lacing. Aroma was of chocolate coffee and according to eagle that is peat i smell. Flavor was much the same little licorice in there. Good beer not the best in the style though. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 12, 2006 Dark redbrown beer with a haze; yellow-brownish head. Traces of licorice, smoke, coffee, moccha, all not very much however. Good complexity (which is not usual for Kulmbach), poor assertivity. Sweet, with a malty, soft-bready character. A flavour as from nettle-cheese. Ends again coffeeish. Medium bodied at best. It’s more stout-like than most Schwarzbiere I’ve had; If this would be presented as a Baltic Porter, I’d have bought it. It just a bit... clean.
