Purs more like a brown ale with some amber highlights and thick tan head. Roasted malts in the aroma. The flavor is a bit muted with trace amounts of roasts and some molasses qualities. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2006 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nice retention on the head. Aroma has dark roasted malt with dark chocolate hints. Medium light mouthfeel with moderate and soft carbonation. Taste has roated malt that give a bit of a coffee flavor. The hops intermingle with the malt to give a bitter coffee aftertaste. I’m not really a coffee fan, but this is nice for what it is. Tmoney99 (4779), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 24, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a large frothy light brown head that lasted and had good lacing. Well balanced malt and hop aroma. Medium body with a thin texture. Medium malty flavor with a light bitter finish of average duration. Good brew in a good looking bottle. johndoughty (2168), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England

Gentle maltiness but not a lot of flavour to get stuck into. I had liiked forward to trying this one but have got to say that it didn’t live up to my hopes. beerscout (62), Albany, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Bottle. Pours to a dark chestnut brown, but appears black. Foamy white head. Aroma is nutty, with roasted malt and light coffee and chocolate accents. Wonderful lace and head, with rings that ribbed the glass. Medium carbonation - not harsh. Smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel. Starts with a slight bitterness but transitions into flavors of roasted malt and caramel and chocolate, slight coffee, and hints of nuttiness. Good lingering malt on the tongue, and cleans with a slight bitterness. Dark Lagers are a favorite of mine and this is a nice example. The bottling is also nice, with the flip-top, and is very drinkable. I enjoyed it. porterhouse (1162), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Apr 2, 2006 (500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours a light cola brown with a very big biege head. Aroma is molasses, coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel actually kind of light, a little watery but smooth. Sloppy gobs of foamy lacing. Flavor frankly disappoints, doesn’t live up to promise of aroma. Has a vegetal quality overriding a very mild coffee with a little chocolate. Slightly bitter finish. Watery with pretty crappy flavor. hair-old (137), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
