Moldy malt aroma. Slightly bitter malt taste with maybe a dash of chocolate. Decent, but kind of plain. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2005 I love schwarzbiers, and this one was as unique as any beer I’ve ever quaffed. Deep copper pour, with aroma of roasty malt, caramel, nuts. Very complex aroma. Tastes malty, nutty, with chocolate, hopcit, and honey. Wonderful balance and a very complex palate. Through light, this one looks like a black and tan, and it has the range of flavor that would support that assertion. Call it a damn good schwarz, or a great beer in general, but I’ll call it the best black and tan I’ve ever consumed. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 21, 2005 Color is quite dark – black until held up to the light at which point it shows a dark ruby tint. Pours a nice creamy tan head. Aroma is rather malty with undertones of chocolate and grain; also a few subliminalized hops. Flavor is rather piquant, with a caramel malty element at the base closely matched by a healthy dose of hops. Yeast and fruity elements show through a bit as well. There’s a cola element to the finish. Not very deep but overall this is a good beer. hopscotch (5487), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 18, 2005 Updated: Sep 3, 2008Bottle... Spring Brewtopia 2005... Clear, dark caramel lager with a small, fizzy, off-white head. The aroma is pretty nondescript with some very light notes of chocolate. Perfectly balanced, crisp, malty flavor. A touch sweet, but then the hops make an appearance. Subtle straw and chocolate presence. Light-bodied and fizzy. Medium-length, crisp, clean, then very dry finish. hawkshadow (102), Rural Retreat, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2005 Pours dark reddish-brown with small white head. Head is mostly diminishing, no lacing. Aroma is caramel, malty-grainy. Palate is very light for such a dark beer. Lightly bitter and slightly acidic. Not much aftertaste, what is there is salty.
Not much here for me. JK (2955), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
