Clear, toffee-toned appearance, with a thick, full, frothy head.
Aroma, nuttiness is foremost, a bit of coffee, and caramel.
Taste: Brisk, neat little hops, fading quickly into lush malty bed. Flavor continues as a nutty, caramelly thing, nice and tasty, but nothing too fabulous, not unseating any king of the schwarzbier throne with this one, no, sir.
Biscuity, toasty malt, well-appreciated, but not too spectacular. High in carbonation, fizzy, creamy, tasty, just enough.
A decent roll in the hay, but not a beer I’d give a second phone call to, unless I was desperate.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2004 The beer poured a bit lighter than I expected from a bottle that said "Black Beer." It actually is more of a very very dark brown/amber color. Nice aroma - a bit of smoky caramel. The taste is good, a bit of chocolate in there. The beer is a bit thinner than expected, but still very drinkable. The entire bottle disappeared rather quickly. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 18, 2004 I love swing top bottles! They are so novel yet authentically cool!?
Pours a nice dark mahogany colored body with a short-term tan hued head. The aroma is rather sweet and smoky. I like it! It’s kind of reminding me of a honey baked ham with Whoppers malted chocolate, which I also like! This brew is rather earthy. Notes of smokehouse and honey glaze…. Ok, It looks like I’m about to start alluding to that ham again! There is also a slight suggestion of cabbage and corned beef … black pepper and onions; celery… the beer is really making me hungry! I wish I had a crock-pot! There is a slim bitterness in the finish... not as dry as I had thought it would be. This is a very drinkable Schwarzbier… recommended! CEZ (369), Milano, Italy

Roasted malt, caramel and a trace of raisins in the aroma. Taste is roasty, slightly woody, not so hoppy. Body is medium and the beer is balanced and drinkable, but flavours aren’t as strong as I expected. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 7, 2004 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear mahogany colour with a good frothy, very light brown head. Nice and intriguing aroma; got the chocolate first, then biscuit, grain and bread, and sweet malts. Flavour is not disappointing, malty and chocolatey, roasty with a light dry and bitter finish. Medium bodied, nice mouthfeel, moderately carbonated, very drinkable. Good Schwarz.
