| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 3, 2008 Poured to a dark black color with medium thick tan head that lingered well and left okay lacing. Aroma was faint, but what was there was chocolate malt. Mouthfeel was fiarly thin, but tingly-sweet. ood taste of chocolate-caramel with a hint of coffee. At only 4.9%, the alcohol never did make itself known in either the nose or taste.
A short, but decent finish. kiefdog (1627), Tampa, Florida, USA

Scotch tapey hay hops aroma with some faint molasses. Nearly opaque dark garnet with a thick, tan cover. Flavour begins with dark malt molasses and then develops into some caramel and perceptible hops. Counterpoint of moderate carbonation and subtle bitterness to offset the sweet molasses. Notes of wood smoke and toasted almond. Smooth and excellently balanced. Light to medium body, sweet finish. fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA

Flavor again very roasted but with a sweet edge, big nuttiness, and loads of chocolate. Medium bodied, very drinkable. Very nice stuff. rcasta (488), El Salvador

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2008 Bottle. This is my first Schwarzbier, I think, so let’s see if I have the language to describe it. Nearly black pour with one-finger light tan head. Shows itself to be clear brown when held up to light. Malty nose with notes of burnt sugar, toffee, cardboard, and a German hop presence. Also a kind of grainy, earthy, pile-of-dead-leaves aroma. Slight smoky notes. An odd fruit (banana-ish) taste and smell as well. Notes of marzipan and cocoa. Somehow a pleasantly sweet aftertaste while still somewhat dry. Interesting, and I look forward to trying more of the style.
