| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2003 Cloudy brown beer, acceptable in a wheat but not a barley beer. Nothing special. Not bad, but from appearance I expected a Schneider Aventinus, and this of course wasn’t; despite the cloudy appearance it is a barley beer not a wheat beer. No real complexity or intensity, none of the intense coffee flavors of a dark malt; notably sour finish. This is not a beer to seek out, either in Germany or at home. motelpogo (4399), Plzen, Czech Republic

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 26, 2002 Lovely copper color with a nice large white head. Nose is predominately of a light caramel maltiness. Flavor is fairly light, dominated by a moderately sweet caramel flavor, with a good dose of bitterness as well. Had it at the same spot as Muzzlehatch, oddly enough. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2002 On tap at Resi’s Bierstube, Chicago. Clear medium-brown body, medium lasting head. Slight butterscotch in the malty aroma, perhaps hints of nuts and vanilla as well. Flavor follows very similar to the nose, very smooth with a medium body and the aforementioned sweet flavor notes. MMM good. baseballguy (246), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 19, 2001 On tap at Resi’s Bierstube in Chicago (which has a fine selection of German and continental beers). Watery and unremarkable. I would take a Heineken Dark over this Altbier, hands down.
