Commercial Description:
Personal information by the brewer Mr. Modschiedler: "The Löwenbräu never in its history before produced any kind of "Dunkel" or "Schwarz" Bier. When we got a wrong delivery of dark malt and couldn't return it, we decided to try for the first time in our history a dark beer. The result is the Löwenbräu (dark) Fastenbock. It is not sure, if there will be a repetition next year !"

(bottle) Clear, dark brown colour with a reddish shade and a small, not very persistent foamy tanned head. Sweet and strong rural, woody aroma of dark and toasted malt with caramel, melanoidins and a light vinous fruitiness from far behind. Sweet flavour, medium to full body, smooth carbonation. Moderately sweet toast-malty taste with light notes of caramel, medium bodied with smooth carbonation; medium-dry, sweetbitter and light hoppy finish with a lasting woody and earthy aftertaste. Very pleasant Bock. Many, many thanks to pivnizub for this rarity !

Bottle (bought at the Löwenbräu). Dark amber coloured, quite firm off-white head; sweet malt, caramel, toasted malt and some hoppiness in the complex nose; strong, quite dry (malty) bitter flavour, only a little bit of sweetness, medium bodied, soft MF, well hidden alcohol; dry bitter malty, almost coffeeish, finish with a little sweetness in the backyard. A superb, pleasant, dry Bockn from a excellent franconian brewery !
