VERY REFRESHING, TASTY,
AMAZING COLOR... BOOTLE IS EVEN GREAT TO LOOK AT #1 in MY BOOK StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 24, 2006 Translucent and fiery cherry-amber in color with a creamy, oily and tannish-grey head. Head retention doesn’t entirely endure, but it was otherwise a beautiful looking beer. Aroma is right on target - peppered caramel, copper toffee, rich chocolate accented pecans and brazil nuts, and moderate brown sugar & allspice. There’s depth, if you take the time to take it in. Vibrant bock traits lead right into the big flavors, culminating toffee chews with cocoa abrasions. Fieriness carries through on peppery sails, further livened by slightly burnt apple wedges, now caramelized and sprinkled with bark shavings and nutmeg. Nutty pear traits and a hint of pralines & golden raisins further the alluring fruit flavor force. Heavy liquid fluidity on the palate with just enough carbon dioxide to pump up the volume. Perfectly balanced in its dominion. Swiss chocolate compacted between the tongue and mouth top comes out prevalently in the finish, along with broiled apples, flan and earthen wonders. This is one hell of a doppelbock. pondoshuffles (141), Fitzroy Harbour, Ontario, Canada May 22, 2003 Tasted on draught at the Munich HauptBahnhof(train station). Very dark brown in colour, especially when served brimful in half litre glasses. Flavour hints at chocolate with balanced bitterness and alcohol completing a near perfect package. I wish I could have one now! Mads Langtved (2246), København K, Denmark Jun 13, 2003 A really winter warmer. Nice strong alcohol taste in the palate. The beer is very flavourful and malty. A magnificant balance between the alcohol and the bitterness. A great brew. Beloved Beer (277), Oceanside, California, USA Feb 15, 2002 I had this beer awhile ago, but I remember it as being a pretty good Doppelbock. There aren’t that many around so they tend to each be pretty memorable. It’s dark and strong with that characteristic aroma of doppelbock. I am surprised there are only 3 ratings for this one. Must be hard to find in the states. I had it when I was in Germany.
