RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 7, 2008 500ml bottle. Aroma: Sweet maltiness with a slight sour breadiness, coffee and cream, light smoke, caramel. Appearance: Black and viscous with a small chestnut highlight. Dark tan head was full and creamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Roasty maltiness with a bready note, old and sour coffee, light chocolate. A light rusty metal note into the finish. Finishes weak. Palate: Medium bodied and slightly watery into the finish. Light alcohol burn in back of mouth. A bit of mouth drying astringency. Overall: The aroma of this beer was actually nice, and it looked good, but it falls flat in flavor and mouthfeel. Had a hard time finishing the bottle.
Rciesla (895), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle picked up in Montreal. Pours a dark black body with a white lacing. Bitter body with some hop character coming through its malt backbone. Etoh is expressive. Some bitter chocolate and a hint of fruit. eh. rodenbach99 (437), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada Sep 29, 2008 bouteille brune de 500ml, bière noire opaque, forte carbonisation, mousse épaisse brune, durable, nez agréable, bouche houblonnée piquante. bonne amertume, astringente en fin de bouche Turco (11), Alma, Quebec, Canada Sep 3, 2008 Pitch black beer with a brown head that disappears fast. The aroma is very sweet and malty. Flavor is sweet, with some dried fruits. Strong notes of sourness and acidity.Thin for the style. JesseM (406), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jul 18, 2008 500mL bottle. Claims to be on lees, so an unfiltered Imperial Stout should be interesting. Pours an absolutely beautiful looking IS, black with a huge brown head. Aroma is nice, brown sugar, molasses, enticing chocolate roasted malts, some yeast, and something I can’t quite put my finger on. Flavour is intense, bitterness the cuts like a knife the whole way through, lots of delicious extremely dark bitter chocolate, some alcohol, and a mild hop bite in the finish. Not a lot of yeast, but definitely some dark esters hiding in this one somewhere. A very good stout in my opinion, perhaps a tad under-rated. Big yeast sediment in the bottom of my snifter by the end too, which is weird but at the same time really cool in my books. Imaena (259), Portland, Maine, USA Jun 24, 2008 Draught @ Mondial 08’. Viscous and malty. Not full enough for my Imperial taste preference. Hops are bitter enough but the accents are too dry. Tastes like old attic air. Spend your money on something else.
