Commercial Description:
In the little town of Bavay, only a few miles from the border with Belgium, the Theillier family has crafted its fine bière de garde for generations. The charming brewery is built into the Theillier family home, which was constructed in the 1600’s on sturdy Roman foundations. La Bavaisienne is artfully brewed, in very small batches, using a resourceful combination of ancient and modern equipment.

Smells like a lager. Huge, off-white head; billowy like a German hefe. Beautiful, reddish amber in color. Lots of visible carbonation and lots of particalia. Very well balanced. Maltiness pervades but with enough alcohol and hops to counter. Session quality if not for the relatively high alcohol. The best rated beer in France, but far from the best beer I’ve ever had. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but it is good.

RBSG 2004. Clear dark orange, malty corn and bread crusts and a gritty bread flavor. Slight sour spices as well. Medium bodied, refreshing, but with some strange peanut flavors mixed in as well.

Deep golden, nice white head. Aroma of aged cheesey hops. Saaz? Real nice. Flavor is rather hoppy, with the cheesey notes coming through. Nice bitterness. Nice malt backbone. Smooth. Enjoyable. And a new favorite.

Spicy herb garden outside barnyard yeasty funk aromas - you just want to keep your nose in the glass for this one. Deep golden, slightly hazy, big head, great lacing. Great malts - sweet apple-butter honey bread, smooth, sticky. Ends with some lingering sweetness.

Dark Amber Coloring. Frothy Head. Very Floral...Grassy... Vegetables....Herbs... Taste is Very Similar...Has some Spice to it...tastes a little peppery to me. Haven’t Had alot of Biere de Gardes...and I don’t think it’s something I would drink often, but I can see having a taste for it from time to time. Very Good Overall.

Medium orange color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is barnyard. Leather and must. A medium bodied biere De Garde. Malts are fruity and funky. Earthy and bready. Kind of sweet. Nicely balanced. Very nice beer. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Copper color with a medium head. Aroma is heavy on a field smell: flowers, grass. The taste reminded me of Kohlrabi (a vegetable). Very spicy, but not in a peppery kind of way. More grass. I would definitely drink this again, but not very often and certainly only in the summer.
