| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 3, 2004 Smells like a lager. Huge, off-white head; billowy like a German hefe. Beautiful, reddish amber in color. Lots of visible carbonation and lots of particalia. Very well balanced. Maltiness pervades but with enough alcohol and hops to counter. Session quality if not for the relatively high alcohol. The best rated beer in France, but far from the best beer I’ve ever had. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but it is good. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Slight sour spices as well. Medium bodied, refreshing, but with some strange peanut flavors mixed in as well. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2004 Spicy herb garden outside barnyard yeasty funk aromas - you just want to keep your nose in the glass for this one. Deep golden, slightly hazy, big head, great lacing. Great malts - sweet apple-butter honey bread, smooth, sticky. Ends with some lingering sweetness. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Taste is Very Similar...Has some Spice to it...tastes a little peppery to me. Haven’t Had alot of Biere de Gardes...and I don’t think it’s something I would drink often, but I can see having a taste for it from time to time. Very Good Overall. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 4, 2004 Copper color with a medium head. Aroma is heavy on a field smell: flowers, grass. The taste reminded me of Kohlrabi (a vegetable). Very spicy, but not in a peppery kind of way. More grass. I would definitely drink this again, but not very often and certainly only in the summer.
