Cloudy dark red almost brown beer, with a beautiful and long lasting beige head, that leaves a nice lace in glass. Aroma has roasted malt and something a little metallic... Flavour is great, a little sweet and with lots of strong malt and a small touch of coffee. It is quite carbonated and complex. Alcohol is there but very well balanced with the other flavours. A very nice beer! jimhilt (1687), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2005 Pours a light tan, one finger-head that goes slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is sweet apple. Starts as sweet raisins/plums, finish is sweet, spicey (nutmeg?) with hops in the background. The high ABV is not noticeable. 330ml bottle from six-pack $22.99 Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me. beerbuzzmontreal (2911), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 14, 2005 The pour reveals a clear brown color with a medium diminishing light brown head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brown sugar, candi sugar, malt and alcohol. The flavor is strong on the sweet side with notes of brown sugar, candi sugar and malt, there’s also some alcohol vapors, the finish is dry. The palate is pleasant with a medium body and creamy texture, the carbonation is soft. Interesting but I would have liked a dry yeastyness to balance the dominating sweetness in this beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 13, 2005 This is a seriously sweet, malty beer, all murky brown (with no qualifiers) with a light tan halo. It’s very caramelly to the nose, sweet, with brown sugar and dark dried fruits. Malt, malt, and more malt in the mouth, sweet and sticky, fruity, all sugared up. The finish is peppery and sweet with the sturdy ABV finally showing itself as an afterburn.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2005 LCBO giftpack. My favourite of the 3 beers in this pack. Dark brown, murky. Frothy tan head. Slight yeast and alcohol in the aroma - slight spiciness too - not as nice as the red. Nice frothy mouthfeel. Strong alcohol in taste, similar yeast to the red, but with the addition of dark spicy malt. Very nice taste. More complex and even more enjoyable than the red- 2 for 2! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2005 Bottle from Bière du Boucanier giftpack - purchased at LCBO. Looks very nice in the glass - rich mahogany colour with a big mocha head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is quite malty with strong apple juice notes and some spice (clove, nutmeg). Very active body with a decent mouthfeel. Flavour is very fruity off the top - hints of apple, apricot and pineapple. A bit of roastiness comes through in the middle, and the finish is moderately dry. Pleasant, but unremarkable. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2005 The Lure: Roasted malts and fruity esters make up a generic Belgian Strong Ale aroma. Some vegetal character looms, but I may be mistaking it for something else.
The Festivities: A plethora of sweet fruit, from prunes to dates to candied berries, is toned down by green apples. A lean body is still able to give roastiness, but depth cannot be obtained. Yeast is prevalent in vitamin form, and fruity esters.
Transcendence: Halloween costumes are fun, but not as frightening as some would like them to be.
