Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 29, 2009 In short: A sugary fruity Belgian blonde ale. Bland.
How: Bottle 330ml. Not super fresh (exact age unknown) but fresh enough to be before expiration date.
The look: Cloudy dark blonde body with a lot of medium size particles. Very small white head
In long: Nose of typical run-of-the-mill sweet Belgian blonde ale with candy sugar and fruity yeast esters. The most dominant flavours are white sugar, banana puree and honey. We’re off to a bad start. Other flavours include biscuit malts, spiciness, lots of minerals, some kind of saltiness, lemon. Very yeasty. I love lively Belgian carbonation but here it is overdone and downright aggressive. Annoying mouthfeel. I don’t have much good to say about this beer yet but somehow I drank my bottle without complaining. Not good but drinkable. The beer is called The Bear’s Beer so I suspect it uses honey because bears like honey, those big scary animals that all have a thick fur coat but no anorak.
