| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2005 This pours a reddish-brown with a tall, tightly beaded head that visits only briefly. The aroma has strong licorice scents over a toffee body with brown sugar. This is very soft in the mouth. It tastes of caramel and toffee along with licorice and dates. The finish is anise and other spices. Not bad at all. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 27, 2005 Bottle... Lightly hazy, ruby ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Thick, creamy lacing with fabulous retention. Brown sugar, dark fruit and a touch of mint in the aroma. The flavor is nicely balanced by surprisingly adequate hopping... for a Belgian. Dried plum, milk chocolate, cinnamon, brown sugar and toffee. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, lightly bitter, bone-dry finish. Quite a nice nose on this one with notes of plum, rasin, cinnamon, belgain yeast, malt. The flavour was full malt, yeast, rasins spices, and a bit of biteering hops at the end.It really developed as it warmed. I’ll be adding more to my colection. maeib (4752), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

The aroma is quite sweet with some fruity chocolate notes and a bit of woodiness. The taste is also quite sweet and again chocolate comes through. Perhaps a bit on the thin side but the alcohol is noticeable. A nice beer.
