| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Dark amber color; creamy head. Malty aroma, candi sugar, light caramel. Full body, dry malt, quite strong caramel and liquorice; but the best is a delicate note of dry roasted malts. Subtle. Correctly strong, the final has caramel and sweet liquorice as well. Soft and maybe a bit too much carbonated. sayravai (3757), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2005 (Bottled) Dark brown color with smallish head. Very malty, slightly roasted, caramely aroma with lots of anise and some orange-peel and dried fruit. Quite sweetish-malty, strongly anisey and bitter flavor. Some coffee and a strong, roasted-malty, slightly spicy and bitter finish. Sugary-malty aftertaste. Medium-bodied, slicky smooth palate with medium carbonation. Alcohol well hidden. A strange, but quite pleasant attempt to combine sweet, anisey abbey dubbel with roasty stout. Some maturing probably wouldn’t hurt this one. TBone (6842), Pori, Finland

Dark ruby color, steady off-white head. Aroma has roasted malts and licorice. Medium-bodied. Flavor has dark malts (bread), molasses. Finish has some coffee notes which makes this like dunkel except alcohol gives strong addition to the palate. Interesting and quite complex brew. Nate (2558), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2004 Lot # 135376. I found this to be a very easy-drinking and enjoyable beer. From the bottle, the aroma is a yeasty chocolate, with some tar and baked prunes. Deep woody brown , fizzy buff-colored head, poster-art label of cloned, effete carnival revelers. Dead-on medium-weight, most of the finish goes quickly, but there’s a long, subtle chocolate and woody subtext. Flavor is muted cocoa, a bit woody, not sweet or overly bitter -- well balanced and good drinking. The ABV is extremely well masked and only really apparent in the nose, and in the reflexes. Malt & chocolate aroma. Malt, chocolate and fruit, with perfume notes & coconut, slightly sweet. Rich and with a complex flavour profile. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England
