Opaque amber-resin coloured with off-white head that recedes to ring. Very fine bubbles. Sweet and malty with an orange character up front chased by tart lemon and a light bitterness. Long, sweet aftertaste that I found a touch cloying. Mouthfeel is somewhat still. Gentle alcohol warming. Bottle (enjoyed with MartinT, Rastacouere and some non-RB tasters). | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2004 Deep clear amber body, rather fast diminishing off-white head recedes to a film. Complex christmas ale aroma. Tons of fruity overtones (pears, mango, peaches) are literally enjoying the company of plenty of genuine spice flavors (cloves, ginger, pepper, coriander) to form a bready/yeasty liquid christmas cake in which the tricky uncle poured a tear of his favorite alcohol. Also very yeasty on the tongue, cake reminiscent. I love how the malt appears cookie-ish and toasty. Sweet, floral, spicy and fruity. Dry mineral finish with a mild appropriate alcohol warmth. Fitting high carbonation over a well-rounded medium body. Superb christmas belgian ale. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Small bottle. Cloudy dark amber. Big starting head and long long lasting foamy caramel cap. Dusty aroma with many hidden fruity scents. Citrus, cherries and plums. Dry on the tongue but leaves a sweetness on the lips. Bubbly. Alcohol blends in nicely with a twinge at the finish. Very light body and breathy taste are intriguing for the style. MartinKubert (862), Copenhagen, Denmark
