I find cinnamon, cardamom, clove, coriander and some orange peel. The flavour is also spicy with herbal notes and herbal bitterness in the finish. Complex and pleasant. oh6gdx (9115), Vasa, Finland
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2008 Bottle (from Cracked Kettle). Deep reddish brown colour with huge beige foamy head. Aroma is at first very much licorice, then turns into spices and a lot of citrus fruits. Flavour is quite much licorice along with spices. Not that much fruityness in the flavour. Some mildly burning alcohol in the aftertaste, otherwise alcohol is very well hidden. Superb. fredandboboflo (1431), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 28, 2009 Bottle. Aroma very spicy, herbal, dry. In the flavor more fruits become apparent (banana, apple), as well as sweet malt, rounding out the very nice spicing. Very tasty. LilBeerDoctor (1546), East Setauket, New York, USA

Aroma of lots of spices (pepper, clove, and lots of others I can’t recognize), water chestnut. Flavor is equally spicy upfront with a nice malty backbone. Pleasant and easy to drink. Another nice BSA from La Botteresse.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2009 (Bottled) Hazy, very dark reddish brown with a smallish, firm and beige head. Caramely-malty aroma with ripe fruit (prunes mostly), and a touch of sweet licorice. Flavor is slightly homebrewish, but with licorice, caramely malt, peppery spiciness, and dried fruit coming along in a moment. Hides the alcohol reasonably well, yet some burning remains, and leaves your lips sticky. Medium body with slightly foamy, but soft carbonation. A quite pleasant and balanced strong ale. It’s sad this brewery is out of business, as this one was quite good. I’ll drink to that! Rciesla (3880), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
