WinoInTraining (38), Longmont, Colorado, USA Aug 16, 2008 minimal head. lite tan. Deep mahagony color, opaque. Nose, brown sugar and spice, malt, fruit. Lots of Co2 on tha palate, then evolves into a soft and easy dringker. Molassas, pear, apple. Not as complex as one might expect.
17thfloor (807), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours a thicker looking murky brown with slight orange tint and a thick creamy fine smooth beige head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with some doughy esters, phenolic, yeast and alcohol notes. Flavor follows, sweet and doughy, caramel, yeast, some banana esters, light alcohol burn, some red berries/apples, and some nuts. Mostly just sugary rich caramel though... At first it seemed from the aroma that there might be something more interesting going on, however way too much sugary malt. Smooth body, medium/full, a bit syrupy with smooth subtle carbonation. hombrepalo (545), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 26, 2008 330ml bottle. Pours a dark brownish amber color with a thick creamy beige head. Aroma is dark fruity with hints of sour dough bread, plums, raisins and nutmeg. Taste is very spicy with hints of bread ,plums, honey, mollasses and nutmeg. Alright!!!! wizzardofboz (3), USA does not count Nov 20, 2008 I was a bit disappointed in this one. Certainly a good beer, but the standards for Belgians are pretty high and this doesn’t measure up to other’s I’ve had. fata2683 (222), APO, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 bottle, what a gorgeous beer. Pours a nice brown/red with some purple highlights at the bottom of the glass. Head is light beige and 3 fingers high. Aroma is dark malt, roasted expresso bean, and bitter chocolate. Smells like a RIS. I hope it doesn’t dissapoint. It DOES NOT. Tons of flavor, where to start.....some chocolate malt meets sweet crystal. The bitterness is spot-on. There is also some spice, pepper and nutmeg that linger in the finish with the alcohol burn. This is a perfect fireplace beer, but I would want it on many other occasions. When I think of Belgian dark strong ale, this is it! Try it! lemasney (314), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Oct 30, 2008 Style and Glass: Belgian Strong; Trappist
