Pours a murky copper (maybe I didn’t decant well enough) with a healthy foam cap. Lots of earthy esthers rise from the glass - most notably canned peaches and cherries. This almost reminds me of the good old fruit cocktail in a can - the one where you only get like two cherries in the entire thing amongst lots of syrup covered pears, peaches and grapes. A healthy dose of musty malt lies beneath. The mustiness carries through to the body - which is medium body and had velvety carbonation. This style is new for me and the ’cellared’ notes are hard to take in. I like them, they are just new to me. Alongside the fungi covered malts are more tart fruity esthers that helps really balance this out. Interesting stuff indeed. dwyerpg (2537), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Fine haze, amber light brown. Good solid fine tanned top, nice lacing.
Pleasant nose, malty, gentle aromatic hops with hints of spice and yeast.
Slightly earthy, woody in character with semi-sweet malt touch. Smooth and very easy to drink. Be aware this one is 8 %. Classic.

Will stick to belgian ales probably from now on, even if I am in France. tomthompson89 (1489), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2006 75 cl bottle. Clear copper-coloured with a good ofwhite head. The nose promises raisins and caramel and just a hint of dusty cellar. Complex raisins and caramel flavours with dry cellar flavours appearing gradually making for a semi-dry finish. Rather light body for this strength as is characteristic for the style. Warming alcohol. A great biere de garde (that lives up to its style).
