Commercial Description:
La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing.

(06.19.06) One pint 9.4 oz brown bottle from Kahn’s Fine Wines, Indiana. 8% ABV. Bottle labeled as best before 10/14/06. Poured clear amber with giant long-lasting white head. Soft carbonation. Caramel and sweet malt aromas. Medium bodied Belgium amber ale that starts dry with light malt sweetness and toasted malt/spice/caramel/ candy-like flavor. Finished dry with light hop bitterness. Well-balanced. Complex flavor character. No funky notes. This is a very enjoyable drinkable amber beer.

The pour reveals a clear amber color with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor of husky malt and fruits. The mouthfeel is smooth and husky. A good, competent bière de garde.

Bu au Pub Italia (33 cl). Couleur brun sale, peu de collet. Bel arome de malte caramelisé et cassonade. Très bon goût d’orge malté, sucré et ra fréchissant.

Pours amber (as the name says) with a rocky tannish head. Aroma has brown sugar, spice and caramel malt. Body is just a little heavier than medium bodied and has very soft carbonation. Initial taste has caramel and cotton candy (sweet in taste, but not really cloying) and some light anise and toffee. Finish has dry and grainy spiciness and spritzy hop spice mixture. An enjoyable beer.

Very interesting beer. Nice head. Very spicy, fruitiness in the finish. Had it in bottle at the Bier Market, in Toronto.

Amberish brown, with a nice long lasting head. Aroma is somewhat alcoholic and phenolic, a bit of burnt wood, spicy hops and a bit of caramel malt round out the flavor profile with just a hintof bittersweet fruitiness in the finish.

Botle at chaucer’s in London, Ont.- Pours deep brown with a frothy beige cap that lasts. No lacing though. Good prune aroma with a spiced hops style nuance that make this interesting. Lots of caramel too. Spicy flavours with floral, woody, and burnt malt invite. Good bitter sweet hops/malt finish. Nice! Thanks Milos from Chaucer’s!
