Commercial Description:
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

This is supposed to be a "fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde," but I found it to be a bit thin. Pouring a lighter brown body, it sports a fizzy, cream colored head that visits only briefly. The aroma is sweet, sweet malts with dark, hard candy and a bit of nutty bitterness. The sweet malts taste lightly roasted and the candy flavors remain strong, the bitterness fading into a memory. The finish is rather abrupt, clean without much lasting flavor.

Pours a hazy dark amber color. Aroma is creamy and sweet. Flavor is dominated by sweet malt flavors. Not bad..

Poured from a 750, this one has a thick frothy/foamy off-white head that disapates to a thin head. The body is bronze, mahogany color. Good lacing. The aroma has a light soap quality to it with a malt backbone and dust and basements, light apples. The flavor has some perfume hops and some floweryness to it. There are some light toasted malts as well, light roasted malts. A biere de garde... The palate is quite thick with a velvety texture.

Bottle shared by Blake. Clear brown body with a thin ring of white bubbles. Dusty limestone and light hops in the aroma. Brown malt and musty dry hops round out the flavor.

(Bottle 75 cl) Ruby-red or perhaps rather mahogany? Slightly hazy. Very full-bodied, lots of malts and a caramel-like sweetness. Has a somewhat vinous touch - sherry? Fine - albeit discreet - bitterness to give balance. Typical rusic biere de garde-character. A true Christmas beer. 230405

Poured a copper brown color with a medium off white head. Malty aroma has notes of caramel, light spice, and alcohol. Flavors of brown sugar, spices, pepper, and alcohol. More alc than I would have thought for 7%. Light body.

Deep reddish color out of the bottle with a foamy off-white head. Sweet candi sugar nose. Caramel, toffee, white sugar with dark fruit notes of plum and raisen. Some toast hints with a warming alcohol sense to it. Tastey beer.

Pours a golden amber hue with a small white head. Aromas and flavors of spice, malt, and honey.
