Commercial Description:
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Brewed in France....... Pours a amber color with a off white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, and figs. Taste of caramel popcorn, sweet malts and nutmeg. The mouthfeel is sticky sweet and easy to drink. I was expecting more form this brew but overall it is well balanced.

750ml bottle shared by BeerGestapo, thanks Mike. Poured with a dark amber body topped by a lasting large khaki head. It both smelled and tasted like Cracker Jacks, that it to say caramel and roasted nuts. Semi-sweet but not sticky or cloying.

750ml bottle. Poured a nice golden dark copper color, some carbonation, tiny fizzy off white head. The nose is malty, slight yeast, figs, raisins, plums, and some caramel. The taste is sweet, malty yeasty, with some dark fruits thrown in, and caramel. Medium body. Very easy drinking brew.

Aged bottle (best before 1993?) at Den Stillen Genieter. Red colour, lots of sediment, small tan head. Cellar and fruit aroma. Dry, dusty flavours with port and fruit in the background. Body has become lighter with the years. A classic that ages well.

Pour is a copper with a large white head. Aroma is caramel with some chocolate and some dark fruit. Flavor is nutty with rosted malt and some mustyness. Some bready malts are left on the tounge after the swallow. Not you typical BDG but i thought it was quite tasty.

Reminds me a lot of a tripel. Smells and tastes of fermented apple cider and skunky yeast. ajm was spot on with his comment about weed, but that almond milk noise is just pretentious.

Bottle from nbutler11 which he disliked compared to me. Aroma that is flowery and floury. Flavor is nicely balanced and sweeter than I would expect. Not as earthy as, say, the Southampton Garde. Brown apple, yeast, funk, weed, almond milk.

Bottle at TFD - Pours a beautiful copper with a slight off white head...aroma is spicy, dried fruit, apples and fig...flavour is cider-esque, light but yeasty...fun to try...
