Commercial Description:
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Pours a translucent tan-copper with many small bubbles. Biscuit and bread in the nose. Honey, butterscotch, caramel and cinnamon in the flavor. The butterscotch is what makes this so good. Sparkling and crisp palate. Easy drinking and a fabulous taste.

Ruby color, thick, frothy white head. Cinnamon aroma, maybe cranberries too. Flavor of cinnamon, malt and alcohol. Light to medium body, liquorous texture. It’s good but I thought this was a belgian beer

hazy dark amber, sweet malty aroma, bitter malt flavor, touch of spices, either too simple or too pallet fatigue

Bottle: Dark maroon body with a thin layer of head. Very fruity aroma with lots of alcohol. Maple/molasses very present as well. Nice. Sugarcane sweetness, with some grape qualities. Maple flavors show up. Black current flavors show up as well. Lots of fruits, and just enough hops to balance it out. Not bad...

This offering pours a dark maroon leaving a thin tan head that leaves very quickly. The aroma is bready, tart unripened fruit, strawberries, cherries, sour dough bread, and a musty dank aroma. The taste is tart upfront, sour cherries, strawberries, lemon, leaving a syrupy mouthfeel that coats the palate. The hops are brisk but not astringent, malty fruitness really finishes this beer off but is balanced by a tart fruitness that really makes this beer great. Overall this is a nice beer, I haven’t had it in a few years but glad I went back to it for this Christmas.

Pours very flat, have to pour it very hard to get any foam. Nose of sweet fruits, slight oxidation, cherry, toasted wallnut. Very rich malt flavor, doesn’t taste cloying, but lacks balance. Lots of dark fruit flavors. I wish this had more carbonation to bring more life into this beer. Tastes flat and sweet with a lack of spice.

Very dark amber with a huge and nice head. The aroma is malty and sour with notes of rowan berries. The flavour is sweet with a grapefruit acidity, notes of candy sugar and rowan berries. IMO it’s not in balance. 1762

Copper brown, small white head. Malty, grassy nose. Caramelly, grassy hoppy and sweetish. Not very Christmasy. Like a combination of typical bière de garde and a bock.
