Commercial Description:

A large beige head settles over the murky soil coloured pour and never departs. In the nose, it plays between earthy and stale coffee, never developping any fruitiness despite its heavy yeast influence. Rather dull yeast at that which provides stale bread uncleanliness and little character besides. In mouth, the biting small bubbles only enhance the exagerated earthy, leafy bitterness to the point that it approaches chalkiness. Very dry beer, another aspect enhanced by its bubbliness. I’m impressed it carries so little malt character, it remains vague in its cerealic hints and its yeast has eaten most of its sugars. I’m not one to ask for more sugar in my beers, but it would have been beneficial in this case.

My Bottom Line:
This trainwreck of an Old Ale attempt frustrates the taster with its severe lack of refinement: it’s extremely yeasty, way too effervescent, ends in an unbalanced hop bitterness and desperately lacks malt definition.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A mountain of rocky foam tops the muddy brown. So, great head retention, but ugly colour.
-There is simply way too much yeast in the bottle. And on top of that, it doesn’t settle.
-The piney and fruity hop presence is a lot stronger than any malt flavor.
-The ghost of chocolate malt roams on by, but only those who believe in it can taste it.
-The gassy mouthfeel is overwhelming.
-At this inflated price, you just cannot allow yourself to offer such a problematic brew.

Bottle.
