75cl dates end 2008. Cork out with a bang, but not a shooter. Surprising obvious sour edge which soon becomes almost addictively pleasant. I’m sitting here having finished the bottle and wishing I had another beer like it. This would be like the old Chouffe with extra balls. A typical Wallonian spiced ale with a quality yeast. I say typical, but with the old yardstick, La Chouffe now ruined and tasting like a pissy Flemish tripel, this is a rare and valuable example of a beer type that’s now so hard to find.

Pours cloudy amber with off white head. Caramel and bread dough aromas with some earthiness. Biscuit and earthy flavors with a tart, dry finish. Some peppery spices. Light to medium body with crisp carbonation. This was much more like a saison to me.

A slight twist was all that was required to remove the cork as it came rocketing off into my hand. Foam then began to spout from the bottle until I rescued it with my Duvel tulip. It poured a hazy orange topped by a big lasting head. It smells of grapes, musty funk, and hay. The flavor was lightly tart with notes of biscuit, light spicing, slightly metallic, pepper, and saltine. The carbonation stings a bit on the way down. Though the beer is dry overall the finish leaves a hint of bready sweetness on the tip of your tongue. Decent.

(Rating #2164)

Pours muddy reddish bronze with an of-white dense small head. The aroma has an initial spicy blast then nectar grainy traits, very funky yeastiness, red berries and an overall sweetness. Medium / full creamy body with very gentle carbonation. The taste is much fuller, but still dry with basement funk, smooth creamy malt and earthy yeast. The finish is dry with a hint of acidity and sourness. Good stuff.

Bottle shared by durhambeer. Thanks Bobby! Bob opened this beer and half of it sprayed all over my carpet. Thats why I rent. Pours a hazy orange with a whispy white head. Blah Blah blah, this was okay. I wish I had written a little more but Pootz’ momma was distracting me at the time. Ms. Pootz, you know how she do.

75 cl bottle, ’bbe’ 2010. Shiny coppery colour, cloudy, modest head. Rich, aromatic, herbal, hop dominated aroma. The taste is somewhat less impressive, surprisingly sweet(ish) and fruity with a spicy, gently peppery finish; it reminds of Hoegaarden Verboden Vrucht.

Thanks durhambeer for sharing....after it blew up all over your pants. Pours a hazy gold with a 1-2 finger frothy white head. The nose is tart, bready, yeasty, and spicy. The flavor is spicy, malty, some warmth, earthy, some yeasty character, mild bitterness. Palate is a bit thin.
