I found this to be one of the most confounding beers of the tasting. The dingy amber pour, with serious cloudiness, presented no problems. But while this beer might be described as "extra rich," it certainly can also be described as both excessively bready and also weak bodied. That’s actually a tough combination to pull off, no? Thin body but with a really chewy flavor that washes out anything much of interest. durhambeer (1224), Durham, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2008 Big ol’ gusher of a bottle. Golden orange hazy pour. I thought this was a saison, so a little surprised to see it classified as a Belgian strong. Mild spice, nice grainy, slightly sour earthy notes and some light caramel. Some bretty notes as well. Good stuff. ucusty (1912), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Saison Spiciness still comes through this beefed up offering. A dangerous beer given the alcohol and spicy, refreshing, drinkability. CanIHave4Beers (912), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 17, 2008 This was an absolute pleasure to drink. I expected a dark saison, maybe some spices, a lot of alcohol... But oh man, this was not the case.
The bottle opened with a bang, as soon as I took off the cage, that cork was ready to go. It pours a deep blonde, very cloudy with more head in the glass than beer. Aroma was remarkably pleasant, some barnyard funk, some spicy hops, a lot of yeast. The Flavor was better with a soft sourness a little citrus, some spiciness that seemed to be coming only from the hops. Very earthy, and delicious.
