Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

750 ml bottle. I nearly took my head off with this one... took two twists of the cage and the whole thing exploded out. Lovely rich amber colour with a thick sticky white head. Gorgeous brew really. Lovely aroma with a soft orange peel fruitiness, earthy maltiness, soft dankness and light apple/pear fruitiness. As the beer warms the fruit show a bit of overripe spoilage character. A suggestion of caramelly nuttiness as well. Sweaty/goaty flavour with lots of orange and soft sweet spices. Lovely balance. Very dry finish with a lingering dustiness. Good balance. Spiciness is somewhat subdued, but it’s still a good beer.

A little skunky on the nose with faint spices under this spoilage. Spicy body with a little yeast. From a cellars tasting.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. The cork explodes out of the bottle a few seconds after the cage is removed. Pours into a goblet a hazy golden hue with a huge white meringue head. Aroma is pastoral and earthy with some horse blanket, musty sheep, lemony citrus, spicy pepper, and floral hops. Taste is dry and lemony, earthy and yeasty, with a nice component of herbal and floral hops. Very well crafted Belgian saison but watch out for the cork.

Great aroma...could be little bit spicier for a Saison...mouthfeel and appearance are good. Overall a good Saison, but not in the upper end of the spectrum.

25.4 oz bottle. Best before 12/07. Scum coats one side of the bottle like it was stored horizontal. Cellared vertical for a year. Hazy pale brown with an active white head. Tart apple and orange with a touch of barnyard and lemon yeast. Light spice. Soft body, effervescent and refreshing. Delightfully subdued sweet and sour balance. Honeydew, almond then dried apricot. Unique and refined.

750 mL bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland. Pours cloudy, lightly particulate, orange with a large frothy off-white head, mostly lasting, good lacing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, grain), average hops (grass, citrus), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of grape and green apple. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation and a slight bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
