Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

750ml - Orange liquid, creamy head, candy sugar nose. Fizzy seltzer palate. This is fun.

2004 bottle. Great aroma of yeast, spice, oranges, a little bit of hops, bread, and some tartness. Pour is a clear gold with a large creamy white head. Flavors of sweet malt, orange, spice, grain, mustiness, and some farmhouse sourness. Quite nice.

Aroma of yeast, oranges, spice, earth and hops. Hazy, orange coloured with a lasting, off-white, big, bit creamy head. Taste is bitter, sweet, yeasty, with some oranges, malts, hops, spice and an earthy tone. Bit Orvallike indeed. Nice balance. Good brew.

Nice musty, fruity, lemon-grass aroma; super-livlely body; bready malt flavor followed by a tart, bitter and dryish finish; no hop charactor; notes of pepper, peaches, marmalade, dust, raw mushroom.......awesome complexity. Very enjoyable.

Dark gold/orange body with average carbonation and a thick, lasting white foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with some caramel and brown sugar notes. Alcohol is well hidden. Wonderful malty/hoppy taste that carries yeasty, herbal, toffee and nutty hints. Ends with a good bittersweet finish. A bit different from the typical Saison (sweeter, less hoppy/herbal), but still a very nice one!

Nice little rocky head, orange colour, alot of sediment. Smells a bit of honey, probably more, but i’m a fuck. Very full, creamy feel on the palate, and a nice short finish to a nice little blast of orange and honey. Really nice finish, not too much, disguises the 8% very well. This is a good one, reminds me of Orval, my fave, but sweet instead of dry, and not as happy with the hop.

750ml bottle-A nice cloudy orangish body with a head that dissipated quickly. It had an aroma of yeast, citrus, and a small amount of criander. Taste of yeast, floral, grass, citrusy, and finished with a dryness. A good Saison.

Blind tasting at Sombeast’s house

I am not sure if was the fact that my palate was beginning to tire of saisons, but I did not enjoy this particular beer much. Looking at the ratings I think it deserves another inspection so if anyone wants to send me a bottle it is now on my want list. With the score I’ve given it I am a bit skeptical that it was truly that poor. This review is mostly for record keeping’s sake.

Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy orange body left a thin oily head which soon faded away. The nose was very unusual to me - I will need to revisit this with a clean palate to see if it was truly as bad as my notes made it sound. They claim cut wheat, sourness, funk and grassy pears. It did not do much for me at all.

Flavor / Palate - A sweet taste coated the inside of my mouth leaving the feel of granny smith apples on my tongue. The mouthfeel felt slightly overcarbonated and did not do much to interest me in wanting more. I would like to give this one a try again though - a larger sample would certainly either confirm my suspicions or correct my seemingly flawed notes.
