Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

37.5 cl bottle, ’bbe’ 2007. Foam pours over the bottle neck when opened. In the glass, the beer settles to a golden copper body, slightly turbid, with numerous yeast patches and topped with a two fingers thick white cream. Subtle yet rich aroma combines yeast, fresh bread with sesame seeds and hints of fruit (apple, melon, orange). Some ’animal’ hop notes are revealed, too. The taste is smooth but generous, with malts, some yeast, grapefruit and a a very convincing bitterness in the aftertaste. A lot of dusty bitterness and some more grapefruit retronasally. A warming sensation in the throat, thick body. Strong and lively. Too strong to be a real ’saison’, though.

Bottle from Brandon (bigsilky) Thanks! Pours out an orange yellow color with a huge white head that goes away as qucik as it forms. Smell is musty, malty, yeast, some hops, and spicy. Taste is smooth and tasty, some richness and earthy tasting. Spicy with some tart notes. Pretty good stuff. A good style, really like these kinda beers.

Pours hazy orange / amber with a good sized white head. The aroma is very assertive with tart fruits, spices and yeast. Very earthy and complex. Medium body, crisp yet sturdy with quite a bit of fizzy carbonation; however, the carbonation does not interfer with any of the flavors. Very full flavored saison - lots of tartness and spice, very earthy and husky / grainy. The finish has some extra spice with hops entering the mix. A solid enjoyable saison.

2004 bottle. Pours a fluffy white head into a tulip. Leaves flecks of lacing as it recedes to a rocky head. Hay and barnyard aromas. Heavily carbonated but dry with upfront honey malts and a lasting pepper finish.

Draught - Bruxellensis Festival. Copper, thin off white head. Well carbonated. Bit of marzipan. It’s alright, bit dull, too fizzy.

WOW! somebody said that this was explosive! darn right it is! The cork blew right off when I tempted with the wire, the wire broke and the cork flew (lucky not to kill someone) and a huge amount of foam came flying out of the bottle. I´ve never ever seen something like this before! Huge head, cloudy dark orange color. The aroma is very similar to Saison Dupont, very much outhouse-ish, corn, acres, house animals... even my grandmother who is closing down on her 90´s was intrigued by this and took a sniff of the glass and found the aroma exceptional! I trully agree but there is nothing new in the aroma, after having sampled Dupont and Fantome, oranges stand out by far, and this idea of a barn attic. Taste is very orangey again, some dryness but not overpowering, wheaty, malty, acid, hoppy ... everything you would want in a saison. A really powerful saison and a soul stirring brew. AJ Moneuse would be proud of this

Bottle from Super Saver. I’d really like to see more beers like this hitting the top 100, because they deserve it. This one’s cork popped 12 feet in the air as soon as I unwired the cork cage, with a huge percussive blast and a rapid over-foaming that I had to hurry to catch with my Corsendonk tulip glass. The pour was hazy orangy dark straw colored, with 3-finger off-white head that was big and fluffy and kept reappearing with each repour. The aroma was floral, spicy, with some tart apricot, apple, and pear notes, a lot of floaties, and a great deal of tiny rising bubbles. The taste was fruity, spicy, floral, with some peaty yeast, barnyardy malts, and more sweetness and frutiness as it warmed, all very well balanced and massively complex. This one is outstanding, and you need to get ya some right now.
