Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Bottle. Peppery alcohol and some orange peel bitterness, lightly sugary notes, and definitely some warming alcohol, quite yeasty, but not in an over the top unpleasant way. Nice saison.

Ealing Beer on Broadway Festival 2006. Another Belgian that feels overcarbonated. Pale malt, perhaps a bit of wheat character in there, spicy and yeasty. Tasty but not one of my favourites.

750ml. bottle. Hazy dark golden color with a large white head. Fruity, yeasty aroma with some spices and citrus. There is a lot going on with the flavor. Yeast, tropical and citrus fruits, coriander, black pepper. Mildly sweet, but not cloying.

Bottle. Poured hazy amber with a huge frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid light yeasty toasted caramel and cookie aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate bitter sweet flavor with a medium bitter finish of average duration. This is a standout beer.

I think I’m smitten, with this my 400th beer. This makes the Dead Guy I just sampled look like a pint of piddle.
Beer pours a hazy bright amber-gold with a huge, white, frothy, mostly lasting head. Nice swirls and arches of lacing on the glass.
This smells fantastic! It’s bright, juicy and earthy, Malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; hoppy with light notes of lemon zest, clean, dry straw and herb; yeasty with light tangy notes of horseblanket, soap; light miscellaneous note of candy sugar and moderate spicy alcohol.
The flavor is just as nice the aroma. It is heavily sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic with a long, warm, lightly bittersweet finish. Citrusy aftertaste. Le Sigh...
The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. I have to go now. I need to figure out a way to bathe in my glass.

Hazy gold and a large, rocky, off white head. Nose of grainy malt, branyard funk, crisp, bitter hops, and a touch of sourness. Same flavors. Medium, balanced body. I love this brewery. Right up there with Fantome for the most funkdafied, soulful brews. Great saison.

Bottle - corked and caged. The cork has 2.004 printed on it, so I guess this is a 2004 vintage. Pours a clouded golden amber with a sturdy, rocky, white foamy head. Aroma releases big yeast notes almost immediately, Thereafter, light candi sugar notes, flowers, citrus fruit, light pineapple, spices and sweet malts. Taste brings out lots of fruit, Belgian yeast, a plethora of spices, a soft sweetness and almost a light cake-like flavor. Light lemon, soft tropical fruit notes, candi sugar, plain angel-food cake, and light flowery notes. Body is medium and very carbonated and bubbly. Almost champagne-like at times. Nice dryness around the edges as well. Finishes with more sweet malts, dried fruit flavors, Belgian yeasts, flowery notes, spices and light herbal notes. Very nice!

Pour is hazy orange with a big white head. Aroma is sugar with some yeast in there. Flavor is lemon and corriander with a nice touch of herbs. I would call this a different saison. More like champagne than a beer but over all it is quite tasty.
