Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Bottle - corked and caged. The cork has 2.004 printed on it, so I guess this is a 2004 vintage. Pours a clouded golden amber with a sturdy, rocky, white foamy head. Aroma releases big yeast notes almost immediately, Thereafter, light candi sugar notes, flowers, citrus fruit, light pineapple, spices and sweet malts. Taste brings out lots of fruit, Belgian yeast, a plethora of spices, a soft sweetness and almost a light cake-like flavor. Light lemon, soft tropical fruit notes, candi sugar, plain angel-food cake, and light flowery notes. Body is medium and very carbonated and bubbly. Almost champagne-like at times. Nice dryness around the edges as well. Finishes with more sweet malts, dried fruit flavors, Belgian yeasts, flowery notes, spices and light herbal notes. Very nice!

Pour is hazy orange with a big white head. Aroma is sugar with some yeast in there. Flavor is lemon and corriander with a nice touch of herbs. I would call this a different saison. More like champagne than a beer but over all it is quite tasty.

Bottle. Amber color with a huge off-white head. Cork came out with a large pop and there’s high carbonation. Yeasty, spicey, dusty aroma with some citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Spicey flavor with a bit of dusty, soapiness. Lemon and floral. Carbonation is way too high. Nice flavor. Finishes dry.

Bottled: Golden coloured. Hazy. Beige small head. Sweet and fruity aroma with a tuch of spice. Herbal and fruity in the flavour with some vague yeasty and citric notes. Dry mouthfeel and medium body. Ends on a light spice note.

Bottle (ZBF06): Dark golden hazy with a white head. Nice spice, a little pineapple and citrus. Almost a touch tart. Refreshing and tasty.

cork opened with a big CRACK! very bright hazy golden color. big tall rocky & fluffy merangue white head. fizz up the center of the body. super clingy lacing like soap suds. aroma is spicy, yeasty, and funky sweat. honey tangerines, pure cane sugar too. flavor is pretty malty for a saison, yes. sweet with a little banana, but quickly dry with a healthy full carbonation. some tangerine and lemon peel flavor, a bit dried floral-like too. wet herbs and slightly bitter finish.

I’m glad that I glanced through the reviews when I picked this up a few weeks ago and was forewarneed about this beer’s explosive qualities. So donning my goggles, I undid the cage and popped the cork - - or, it popped me! A HUGE fizzy off-white head crowns a pale amber body, hazy with some floaters. The aroma is a sharp malt loaded with spices, Swiss cheese, citrus rinds, and wild flowers. The flavor is an amalgamation of many of the things you might imagine could be in a saison - only this time it’s all at once. All is skillfully blended to create a tasty, refreshing brew, abv well hidden, one well worth repeating.

Wow. Quite malty for a Saison, but totally convincing. Very rich, and a bit sweet, but not overdone. A very unique but easily drinkable brew. Excellent mouthfeel.
