Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Wow. Quite malty for a Saison, but totally convincing. Very rich, and a bit sweet, but not overdone. A very unique but easily drinkable brew. Excellent mouthfeel.

Bottle. Quite an explosive beer. The cork popped out as soon as the cage was removed. Gigantic white head with a hazy orange liquid in the bottom of the glass. Funny aroma of oranges, cheese, cork and wet grass. Wet grass, flowers, wet wood, orange-peels and grapeskins in flavour with warming spicy undertone. Dried oranges in the aftertaste. Funny and tasty saison.

2004 bottle. Modestly translucent and golden in color with a booming, foamy white head with audible fizz and glorious snow storm lacing. Aroma leaps out as the cork pops off, emitting ginger, lemons, limes, coriander, cardamom, chamomile, daisies and sugared nectarine rind. Flavor is mostly a textbook rendition of the standard saison equation. Golden wheat fields graced with lemon juice and sugar sprits. Undercurrent of croissants. Corn stalks, mild herbal butter and a hint at sour limes, all the while curtailing to a lemonhead candy carol. Herbal allocations aplenty, breaching a starchy and staunch pils husk profile with an interjection of dandelions. Effervescent and liquid bread, challenging the palate only for moments when it resided at the front and back of the palate. Husky bitterness profile spices and curtly scuffs the taste buds, finishing like French baguettes with buttered crust, taken down and eaten a week after sitting in the display window.

A thick, resislient, off-white head sits atop a golden brew that is hazy from a fine yeast sediment that stays in suspension thanks to the high carbonation level. Aroma is bone dry with leathery, cedary, lemony notes common to the style. The carbonation level continues to push the foam out of the top of the bottle even after relieving it of over half of it’s contents. Flavor has the aroma components but also a syrupy, honeyish malt foundation that dominates and is too sweet for the style (it is more Triple-like), but the acidity from the high carbonation level redeems it somewhat.

A complex beer. Cloudy orange and an enormous white head that laces the glass. No sediment at all. Most flavorful at room temperature. Aroma has flowers, some yeast, and a little malt. Complex flavor that includes citrus fruit, with malt underneath, and some salt as well. Light and airy; almost like champagne.

This bottled brew was corked and caged in 2004. When opened, its cork came out with a "KERPOW" and foamed up everywhere making quite the mess. After it settled down, it poured an all foam mug of foamy finely sized long lasting white colored bubbles that left behind a thick lacing. The body contained average carbonation, was transparent with suspended finely sized particles and orange brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of fruity and aromatic . Its mouth feel is initially tingly vinous with a lingering tingly vinous palate and a aftertaste. Its flavor contained fruity bread wheat hop notes. All-in-all very nice brew.

A very explosive beer. The color is hazy orange with some sediment of yeast floating around, and a huge whipped cream off-white head. The aroma is sweet spicy and fruity - I pick up coriander, yeast, peaches, and oranges. The flavor is sweet and very fruity, but also spicy, with the spiciness balancing the sweetness well. It has notes of oranges, cloves, citrus, and cardemome. The mouthfeel is very carbonated and the end very dry.

Yeasty nose - very lovely. Gold color. Creamy honey malt with apricot notes. Dry end turning to a light gritty hop tinge. Medium body. Alcohol present, but in background - just enough to intensify the flavor. Very well-done beer with lots of character. Excellent.
