Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Cloudy orange body under a mammoth thick white head. Cotton candy aroma (but lighter and freeze dried - sort of a mineral effect) with orange peel and dry grass hops. Overall a the aroma is light yet interesting. The flavor is more assertive with strong whole grain cracker malt, the spicy part of lemon peel, and lime (mineral). The finish has a hint of alcohol, biting leaf, and minerals. Light, tingly mouthfeel.

The cork was really eager to come out. The beer has a sourish nose that has hints of mint and corriander, pepper and pears. Grainy aromas as well. The body is a hazy bright orange with a nice white head and decent sheet lacing. The flavor is a yeasty, grainy, earthy spice, a light sourness to it as well. The palate is lively, smooth, and moderately bodied. 8, 3, 7, 4, 15 = 3.7

Blind re-sample. Pours to a very clean murky golden straw colored body with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is heavily yeasty. Nice mineral and farmy aromas. The flavor is yeasty, minerals, muted hops. The palate is moderately full bodied, clean, and refreshing.

Corked bottle served my my Duval snifter:

Slightly hazed rich golden hue with a massive initial frothy head and very impresssive lacing. The aroma has notes of biscuity and bready malts, apricot and orange zest, herbal and grassy hops, corriander, pepper and a touch of mint and tea leaves. The taste starts quite yeast and earthy with underlying fruits and wheat. A bit of spice and herbal (meadow) kick upon the finish. Some alcohol notes appear as well but accent the flavor more than detract. The feel is lively and dry with just a light warming while drinking. A darn good brew I could enjoy again and again.

Golden with a chunky haze of suspended particulate. Malty spicy with a good alcohol kick. It’s very dry and a bit too dry for my liking but a least it’s not chalky.

08.22.05 750ml bottle, cork dated 2004. Hazed honey gold with fantastic, towering, rocky off-white head. Active stuff with visible eff and a quarter inch of head that lasts all the way to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is light, fruity, and biscuity. Pineapple, orange, mint, and a touch of corriander. Flavor is fruity but more muddled, quite spicy/herbal and nice blend of dusty, musty, earthy hops. Soft honey sweetness underneath it all that emerges and coats the palate with temperature. Nice stuff, refreshing, summery, and still rich and yeasty enough to stay interesting.

(2002 Vintage) Huge carbonation in my chalice. One of the most impressive looking beers I have seen in a while. A large snowy white undulating head about 1/2 inch thick that is constantly being regenerated from the intense carbonation. Looks like a satin sheet on top. Spicy and yeasty aroma with light fruit and straw. Color is a golden honey. Dry and slightly chalky palate with more fruit and plenty of spices. Lots of pepper. Just a slight hint or sourness. Very minimal though and only in the first sip or two. Big alcohol presence in the flavor and a very nice warming as it goes down. Spicy finish with a lingering tingle from the alcohol. Little dry with slight bitterness. Pretty good stuff. Thanks to etowneraser for this one.

Pour is almost orange on the amber scale with dense off white head with big floaties...smell is dry and yeasty with straw, horseblanket, lots of pepper, some sweet pear and grapefruit too...taste is mildly sweet citrus with lots of pepper, yeast, and dryness toward the finish...pretty nice stuff...
