Commercial Description:
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

750 ml bottle. Clear golden, huge white head. Malty fruity musty aroma. Malty fruity flavors, some hops present in flavor and slight bitterness. Slight alcohol, but pleasantly in the background. Malty finish, with a slight hoppy tang. Maybe my favorite of the lot.

75cl bottle, cork dated 2004. Big, champagne-like head that mostly fades leaving some lace. I love the aroma...musty, slight stable, peppery hops...somewhat reminescent of Dupont, also some cookie-like malt...very dry with some bitterness. Malty spicy flavor. Super saison.

Hazy orange, small orange head, lots of floating yeast. Nose is dry hops, cardboard and earthy notes. Very earthy (mould) flavor. Spices (coriander), bitterish hops, alcohol and maybe wheat also. Complex beer (but not totally great) - like a geuze on drugs.

The aroma was full of light fermented fruit, vinious notes, slight barnyard, and hints of citrus and flowers. The flavor was soury w/ light fermented fruit, hints of grapefruit and flowers. This beer poured a cloudy yellow brown w/ thin lasting head and lacing. The mouthfeel was light and creamy, tangy w/ a slight aggressiveness.

Sligtly tart and bret-esque. Nice grassy hop nose and citrus and spice body. Mild orange zest and grains of paradise nose without the grains palate. Very nice unusual saison very refreshing and appetizing.

This Farmhouse ale pours with a generous off-white lacy head that lasts for a while. The taste is initially a bit sour with a citrus finish. This is one of the better Saisons I have tried.

Orange and citrus taste. Yeast city, with the aroma and the look. Extreme head, and lace. Retaining head. Creaminess. A bit of saison, with honey and corriander
