Clear golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor of malt and honey with a dry finish. I like bière de garde but this one is decent but seems to be lacking something.

Good-looking golden-amber pour, mostly clear, with an honest meringue of a head that slowly diminishes. The nose is rather dry yet honeyed, comprising hay-like pils malt that betrays the balance with vegetal DMS undertones (asparagus). Soft grassy hops bring a spicy aspect that is not devoid of interest in a Bière de Garde. Rather dry flavour profile, not as clean as expected and the yeast doesn’t impart much flavours at all, but the hop profile is pleasant enough.

Golden ale with a thine creamy white head. Light oxidized malt with caramel, and light butterscotch. In mouth, a sweet lager type, with crisp hops, light cardboardy notes, medium bodied. I cant really say I’m a big fan of Biere de Garde. At the Mondiale, June 2006.

Sample from the bottle (750 ml corked) at the Mondial de la Bière, 2006. Little head tops the solid clear-gold body....a bready, lightly honey’d whiff escapes with faint dry grasses and bit of pale malt....the tongue is more impressed, with a lightly syrupy, somewhat mineralic earthy, chalk-touched caramelly mixture which dries nicely for a refreshing, if ultimately fairly simple spring quencher....

Bottle conditioned, from York Beer Shop. Deep amber gold, good lasting fluffy white head and good condition. Quite nutty initially in the nose, mostly hazelnut, some sweet yeastiness and a slight herbal/vegetable note. Soft and nutty in the mouth with gentle sweet yeast and some fruity hop notes. Soft and sweet yeasty finish with a delicate hop bitterness and a touch of otherwise well concealed alcohol.

Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a rocky white head. Sweet malty aroma with fruit and spices. Sweet malty and fruity taste; well hidden alcohol (apart from some very late warming) medium bodied, moderate carbonation. I do like these Bière de Gardes, very good.
