A little startled to find that such a bland offering would come in my first tasting of a La Trappe beer. Recently re-accepted into the strict Cistercian order of Trappistes, I couldn’t help but notice the commercial influence that tarred this Blonde. Poured into a chalice, cool and not cold. A wonderful pale, orangey copper hue radiated from the glass, slightly hazy, with a thin creamy lather of foam that left minimal lace. Soft and subtle, honey, toffee and alcohol spiced aroma; nothing special. Initially it was almost flavourless in the mouth with biting carbonation that tickled the tongue, teeth and gums. This waned quickly and as it warmed it showed the strong sugary sweet notes of the aroma. Toffee, honey and rock candi dominates the fairly one-dimensional palate with a strong hint of medicinal alcohol in the back. Becomes cloying after a while and the sugary alcohol mix begins to rattle the teeth a little beyond being pleasurable. Had the characteristics of a European Strong Lager. Unbalanced beyond doubt, this wasn’t one for me. One for a re-rate. (30cL, BBE 06/07, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

Ugly, light brown. Floral, fruity aroma with malt in the background. Same taste with balanced malt and hops. Sweet and creamy with a clean, slightly hoppy, alcoholic finish. Nice carbonation level. Great brew for spring or summer.

Nland and boring compared to theor other beers, this one has a light spicey aroma and a delicate hoppy and herbal taste with a full bodied oily finish.

Bottled. A very slightly hazy orange coloured beer with no head. The aroma has banana and pineapple, and is a bit syrupy. The taste is also sweet and fruity; a real fruit cocktail. None of the yeastiness or spiciness I would be looking for. A bit of a disappointment.

Medium size white head on top of an orangey golden body. Buttery aroma also a little pepper. A little thin in the taste but much more palatable than my previously tasted beer. Soft malt, banana, dry finish but just lacks a bit of guts.

Nice dessert-type beer. Sweet caramel/toffee, apricot, and wild honey flavors. Very, VERY mild hopping! Bit of an alcohol kick, making me think this was a bigger beer than it turns out to be. Some hints of banana and gumballs....making me feel like I might be back in pre-school at snack time, enjoying an apricot juice wearing a couple of Salerno butter cookies on my finger like doughy rings. I hope that’s perfectly clear!
