Heavy fruit, caramel, and malt nose...Got raisins, & candied fruit on the flavor w/ a touch of bitterness/bite at the back of the palate. Good solid dubbel...

Also has a light smokiness. The taste is fruity with banana again but also raisins and figs. Some chocolate as well. Wulfstan (509), California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2008 This is very dark, slightly brownish red with a big, dense lasting tan head that dissipates to a thin foamy head but leaves no lace. The aroma is dark, burnt caramel, wheat bread, leaves, and a hint of pears. The taste is sweet at first, gradually becoming more bitter near the finish, burnt caramel, raisins, brown bread, with an aclholic quality. It is reminiscent of a lighter, more burnt-bitter relative of barleywine, while being less rich and oily. It’s nice and interesting yet pretty easy to drink. Beerlando (2351), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Pours a dark purplish-crimson color with a medium sized, foamy, light tan head. The foam settles to a thin film, with a quick swirl yielding nothing but runny, sudsy legs that rejoin the body. The aroma is fruity and malty, with dried figs, plums, and dark berries showing atop notes of toasted caramel and light candied sugar. The flavor is quite a bit drier than I expected, with dehydrated fruits playing a huge role. Figs and plums again assert themselves, while caramel malts play more of a background role. A trace amount of fumy vanilla vodka is preset deep within this one. Medium bodied, this one is quite sharp on the roof of the mouth, finishing kind of sour. Not bad, but nothing special either. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2008 Poured a nice brown color with a small head that faded into lasting lacing. Smell was very fruity up front. Taste was smooth, light fruit, hints of yeast. Nice drinkable trappist, not the best belgian but certainly not the worst. Maverick34 (716), New York, USA

A pretty good dubbel that had a sweet taste and a shiny reddish color, actually probably one of the few good dutch-made beers I’ve ever had. apc (9), Australia does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2008 Medium hoppy aroma. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Excellent dubbel! I brought a bottle back from Belgium and waited until today to drink it. I should have brought more. Although it is Dutch, it still has all of the flavor and character of a trappist dubbel.
