Pours an extemely dark ruby brown with minimal head after a minute. The nose smells like my mother’s chocolate chip cookies. Touch of cherries. Sugar is there, but that is part of momma’s chocolate chip cookies. Malty subdued flavor that has a caramelized sugar edge to it. Seems to be lacjing something. Perhaps this bottle is beyond it’s life. Feel is thin to standard. Not all the way bubbly, but still seems to be missing something. Drinkable I guess. I am wondering if this bottle is too old. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 13, 2007 Dark sour appple with a bit of bite in the nose. Taste is similar but acidic and jumps on the tongue. Sticky medium-full palate. Minor underlying alcohol throughout did not distract. Very good beer. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 10, 2007 Deep ruddy brown, dark and hard to see through. Sweet pruney malt. Dark malt, but not roasty and barely any chocolate. A bit of astringency? Creamy soft relatively highly carbonated a bit thicker than average. Roast comes out in the flavor more. Pruney swetness. Diacetyl, a bit of alcohol, a bit of acidity. Lingering prunes and roasty astringency. Not great, but okay. TET (243), Finland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2007 Dark brown beer with thin but durable beige head. Slightly sweet aroma and not very typical . In the flavour sweetness is gone and there are roasted flavours. This is more porter than trapist? Stefano (1344), Esbjerg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2007 Deep copper tinted brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is yeasty, with plenty of fruit. The flavor was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and lightly bitter with a long, lightly sweet, lightly acidic/tangy finish. Unclean aftertaste. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2007 This Abbey dubbel pours a deep reddish color from a 33cl bottle. Large sized beige foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is malty, brown sugar, dark fruits and sweet. A medium bodied dubbel. The malts are fruity and sweet, touch of sherry and port. The hops are earthy and mild. Lively carbonation. Lots of malt sweetness and some chocolate. Kind of one dimensional. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and sweet. Aftertaste is sweet. Goodgrief (1161), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Bottle labeled "Koningshoeven Dubbel Trappist Ale". Beer poured with absolutely no head whatsoever (okay, maybe a wee little bit)...very little lacing. Smell was winey with alcohol present. Taste was atypical of other dubbels I’ve had...VERY winey taste with apple/cherry undertones. This beer is a "wannabe" as someone called it below. Very unimpressive. Russo (595), Campinas, Brazil
