Bottle at Bar & Cigar, Oslo. Lots of fruit and malt, a full flavour beer if there ever was one. Not much hop presence, but somehow the sweetness is not cloying. A very enjoyable beer.

Nice, nice, creamy head. The aroma is alluring with notes of malt and fruit. Flavour, well I admit that La Trappe has a very, special place in my heart, I simply like their beers!! I get notes of syrup, ripe, dark fruits, malt, caramel and a light bitter finish. It is a very full-bodied beer - really nice.

Bottle best before G104, so I am guessing 3-5 year old bottle. Old label, nice bottle with logo on the glass, and the old cap (all better the the new bottles). Unfortunately, the rest of the beer is still disappointing (I guess some things never change). Poured into a De Ranke wine like goblet glass. Pours with no head and no lacing. Color is brown, cannot see through it but lots of clarity on the edges. Aroma is present, whole wheat brown russian bread (not wheat), grainy. Its an aroma I found in a lot of Belgian Dubbels that are second or thrid tier. Taste is a watery candi sweetness, some dates. Everything in general seems to have faded., Finishes with a stale bread aftertaste. Some grassy herbally flavors as well.

Rerate: Best Before 2008 ceramic bottle brought over from Holland. I figure this is a slightly different beer, just slightly, 7% says the label. Mainly, the beer was a little out of wack, lots of sweetness, over the top and cheap. It had a candi base but seems like it went somewhere else with it. Not bad you would think with some time but as it shows above not good either. Maybe there is a middle ground somewhere in time but its too small to make a different.

Bottle Labeled Konings Hoeven Dubbel - Pours dark brown with a fair offwhite head that stays well and laces. Aromas of chocolate, raisin, roasted malts, yeast. Flavor is chocolate, raisin, lots of yeast, some roasted notes, a little candi sugar. Palate is soft and well carbonated. Not bad.. Cool thing is this one was $1.25 at the Andersons because they couldn’t figure out the price..

Dark mahogany red pour with ample head. Rich strong sweet brew that will make your liver quiver if consumed too quickly. Fine Dubbel. Very drinkable.

Very murky redish-brown body, many particles and a tan head that is as short lived as my new year’s resolutions. A simple but effective mix of sweet liquorice candy, caramel and earthy berries. Far behind these main flavours I get some floral nectar, some figs and some medicine (cough syrup). Limited hops presence, to say the least. Soft carbonation. Doesn’t feel special or unique but still highly drinkable.

Sweet, smooth, thick and brown. A little bit too much fruitiness (banana, melon) on the nose and taste, otherwise very good and highly enjoyable. Good smooth carbonation and mouth feel. I remember the tap version having a bit more fruitiness than the 0.33l bottle I had.

(30 cl bottle from a friend from Holland) Clear red brown color, huge tan head. Sweet, raissin and cheeze, alcohol scent. Sweet sugary alcohol taste, candy sweet aftertaste. Low bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel.
