hopscotch (4591), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2002 My bottle has the same monestary on the label, but is called Konings Hoeven Dubbel, not La Trappe. Apparently, it’s not brewed in the same place any longer.
Anyway, I think, as I drink, that this is an excellent dubbel.
The aroma is a complex blend of rich, sweet malt, fuzzy, citrus and dark fruits, caramel, butterscotch and cocoa.
It’s a really good looking beer. A deep, clear ruby hue with a small khaki head. The head is creamy and mostly diminishing with weak lacing.
The flavor reminds me a lot of Victory’s V10. Ok, maybe it’s the much younger V10 that reminds me of this beer. Rich, sticky-sweet malt with bursts of caramel, milk chocolate and a dark fruit/fuzzy fruit blend up front. Slightly sweet, slightly tart and just a whisper of the hop addition on the backside.
Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation with BIG bubbles. Long, creamy, semi-sweet, fruity finish. Awesome beer. Some seem to have knocked this beer down a few notches since the brewing location was switched to Holland. It must have been ambrosia previously. Get your hands on this beer. It’s underrated at 3.67 (currently).

Beth101 (122), West Yorkshire, England Sep 21, 2008 Smelt sweet. Colour of coke with a large of white head. Sweet and syrupy but not much flavour it was smooth and thick. fata2683 (178), APO, New York, USA Sep 14, 2008 From the corked stone bottle. Nicely packaged beer that doesn’t disappoint. Pours a murky brown with a light tan head. Smells wonderfull....spice, hops, cedar. Tastes slightly sweet, really is nicely balanced with bitterness. Excellent. lievenvh (13), , Belgium Sep 7, 2008 caramel, toast, brown, sparkling, tan foam, full body, average carbonation, long finish,
