blipp (683), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours very dark orange with a beige head. Aroma is fruity and yeasty. Flavor has apple, spice, and yeast. Nice. TOSG55 (17), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle, as Koningshoeven Dubbel. Pours a reddish brown, with a thin tan head. Faint aroma of sweet fruit. Flavor is brown sugar, toffee, dark fruits, and a bit of yeasty tanginess. Delicious. A phenomenal Abbey Dubbel; I find its lukewarm rating to be quite puzzling. JustinBathurst (135), Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada Aug 13, 2008 Poured dark ruby with 2.5 cm dark tan head.
Aroma is "holy banana smell" with an addition of water pipes. Which worked for me, to tell the truth.
The mouthfeel is slick with lower than average carbonation.
The taste is banana, toffee, cookie dough, with a touch of high alcohol warming. The aftertaste is strong with unsweetened cocoa and grapefruit.
Awesome. Pinball (353), Allerød, Denmark Aug 12, 2008 heavy aroma, cheese, dark fruits. dark brown small brown head, flavor dominated by dark fruits, raisins, booze.. glogg, christmas spices. palate is too watery, aftertaste is dominated by bitter alc, which draws down my overall rating. sebletitje (242), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 10, 2008 bottle 33cl
Amberish/brown color with white head.
Aroma is earthly yeast and of dark fruits (cherry or prunes). Grains.
Taste is malty and fruity, lightly sugary and a little bitter/sour finish.
Well balanced beer, awesome flavors.
