0.33 l bottle at Old Bricks Inn, Jyväskylä. Hazy amber color. The aromas of orange, honey, red currant, perfumed spiciness and alcohol. Sweetish flavor with toffee, caramel, orange, pepper, clove and red berries. Sharp carbonation. Restrained fruitiness and spiciness, at least in Belgian standards. Sweet and mellow, no balls.

Bottle.
Pours a deep, rich cheddar orange with a nice off-white head. Aroma is orange, peach, sweet yeast, and a touch of raisin/plumb. Flavor is a doughy sweet raisin with a finish of peach and orange peel. Zesty, tingly mouthfeel that deceives the drinker into thinking the beer is thinner bodied than it is really. Finish seems to resonate with apple juice aged in the dank, musty cellar located under the brewery. A nice beer.

Tap at Lucky Baldwin’s. Nice full aroma of trappist yeast, flour, dark fruit. Color is great for this style: a wonderful roasty light brown. Flavor is roasty round malt, plum, date, more yeast, esters, dark, dark grape and sweet grain. Really great. A hell of an anniversary beer.

On tap at OBriens in San Diego, shared with Katie alongside quite a few other good Belgian style ales. Labeled on the tap board as the 125th Anniversary for Koningshoeven. Pour is a brilliant deep golden-orange. Aroma is diacetyl ginger butterscotch. Some pear and orange peel loft from the head. Flavor is light and spicy, like a good Belgian pale. Sweet malt sugars and sherry tones dominate throughout the flavor experience. Finish is smooth, with a medium bodied palate.

Bottle. Thanks Owen for sharing. Deep amber with large slightly offwhite head. Flavour is pretty much as expected with plenty of caramel. stone fruit and subtle spices. A fair whack of alcohol too. Flavours are pretty much the same with lots of sweet malt, stone fruits and alcohol. Some hop bitterness at the end. Pretty good beer all up.

Pours a hazed amber color with a textbook creamy head that sits there like a stubborn mule deer. Mild aromatically. Medium full nectar with creamy effers. A solid fruit core of stonefruit and green apples with moderate acidity. I catch a glimpse of some fresh baked gingerbread and biscuits, red licorice. The finish lingers a bit leaving a bit of dryness on the tongue. A rather complex brew that evolves as it warms in the glass. Good stuff.

Big thanks to Tony at OTH for sharing this one. Pours clear yellow gold with a frothy off-white head. Nose is malt, candy sugar, spice, pepper, and slight hop presence. Flavor is yeast, malt, pepper, soft spice, floral hops, and bread. Light to medium mouthfeel, sessionable and enjoyable. Monks gone wild.
