750ml bottle from Coffee District. Yeast nose with pear, apple and caramel and some nice spice. Pretty great nose. Exuberant carbonation and a nice burnt amber with a huge foamy beige head with big staying power. Well carbonated and yeasty up front with lots of caramel malt finishes with hints of apple and some dark fruit, suprising in this beer. Rather deep malt complexity and a pleasing lingering taste of butterscotch put this above all other Koningshoeven beers I’ve had. A very fine effort.

Dec 23, 2009 Amber coloured beer with some very light carbonation and a small white head. Sweet vanilla alcoholic malty aroma. Full creamy palate. Finish is bitter, vanilla alcholic and fruity hinted. Nice one.

Dec 20, 2009 750ml bottle $10.49, I feel cheated. Hazy orange color, the head sucks, ha! It smells like funky fruits, belgian yeast, interesting. the taste is more of the same, weird fruits but not sour, maybe a bit of apple in the aftertaste, odd. This was an odd trappist beer, I would have rather had the dubbel.

Sweet finish.

Dec 19, 2009 bottle, pours carmel red with a tall light tan head. Nice sweet carmel aroma. Toasted nutty malt base with candy sugar and light white pepper notes in the finish. I like this and it’s a great session brew.

Dec 14, 2009 This beer reminds a lot of Orval, without the dry finish. You could say it’s a wet Orval, only flatter in taste, like a watered-down version.
Appearance isn’t all that well, very sparkly and an uneven foamy head. Not really tasty, but very lively.

Dec 14, 2009 Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Amber pour with a white head that soon dissipates. Aromas of barley sugars, raspberries, toffee, vanilla. Flavours of caramel, citrus, malts, summer fruits. Finishes sweet, dry and fruity. Nice.

Appearance: orange, hazy, minimal head, white foam
Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour
Palate: medium body, oily feel, fizzy, astringent
A stout-like taste with to much sweet, as with most beers from La Trappe.
