Yet is is also tangy, dry, and sweet, perhaps a tad too sweet for a top ranking. Dates, figs, rasins, coriander, orange, Lots of malt, medium-low carbonation. The yeast and 10% alcohol are apparent but do not overwhelm. On tap at Brasserie V by Camp Randall in Madison. cyrenaica (440), Milton, Ontario, Canada

I tried this on draught on April 11, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a thick, long lasting white head. The aroma was thick with yeast and some sweet caramel malt. The mouthfeel was thick, creamy, and mildly carbonated. The flavour was brown sugar sweet, with some yeasty hints. Not quite as sickly sweet as a Samichlaus of Hardy’s. jonsiii (157), Fredericia, Denmark

The aroma is very malty with lots of fruit and vanilla. Very good sticky lacing on the glass. The taste is a dark fruit and sugary finish. A good quad from Koning. jwitt888 (1), USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Wow! Im impressed. I was expecting it to be a wee bit darker. Its definitely lighter than other quads but who cares...it tastes great! I think it was a case of the right beer at the right moment. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Not too bad. Aroma is sweet, with fruit and floral notes. Flavor was nice with malt and dark fruits with spice and carbonation with slight alcohol in the finish. Quality beer but there are better quads out there. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2008 Bottle. The color of an old copper penny with a relatively thick tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Moderate lacing. Nose of prunes, caramel, and coffee. Flavor is of dark fruit with notes of caramel, coffee, pepper, and then... a finish of alcohol. Pure and simple. Like when you do a shot of liquor. The alcohol punch, not that noticeable until the finish, serves as the final kick to each sip. This one would be a good cold weather brew (It’s April, and not that cold outside, as I sampled it). The beer drinker’s answer to brandy! tkimbrought05 (37), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Apr 13, 2008 Bottle. Bought under the Koening Hoven label. Smells like old bananas with a sweetness in the aroma. Average head. Pretty sweet in the taste with a touch of spice left on the palate afterwards. This ranks right up there with Chimay and Rochefort and perhaps even surpasses them in my book. Definitely look forward to drinking this one again.
