The color of an old copper penny with a relatively thick tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Moderate lacing. Nose of prunes, caramel, and coffee. Flavor is of dark fruit with notes of caramel, coffee, pepper, and then... a finish of alcohol. Pure and simple. Like when you do a shot of liquor. The alcohol punch, not that noticeable until the finish, serves as the final kick to each sip. This one would be a good cold weather brew (It’s April, and not that cold outside, as I sampled it). Smells like old bananas with a sweetness in the aroma. Average head. Pretty sweet in the taste with a touch of spice left on the palate afterwards. This ranks right up there with Chimay and Rochefort and perhaps even surpasses them in my book. Definitely look forward to drinking this one again. Eructoblaster (1508), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Superb hazy amber body with low carbonation and an average off0-white creamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar, caramel, and fruity hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Well balanced and complex taste that carries fruity (plum, cherrues), spicy, and yeasty notes. Ends with a very enjoyable warming finish. Wonderful winter warmer! The aroma was pleasing, and involving with honey, molasses and a blend of sweet spices. The flavour tasted like a blend between Rochefort 10 and Kasteel. The brew was sweet, but did not take away from its integrity. Absolutely fantastic! A must have. Blom (514), Odense, Denmark
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Brown with a low head. Sweet aroma and flavour of peach, plume, kiwi and banana, but the alcohol is overwhelming and there is too much yeast to really cut it for me.

Aroma is slightly sweet with a big banana and spiced cloves. Rich malty dark fruits as well. Sweet dark fruit up front. Some yeast and spices. Some roasted maltiness. A hint of bitterness in the finish. Good sipper. Well hidden alcohol. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is a fragrant red berry and and vanilla fruit malt, smells like your walking through the fruit section of the farmers market. that alcohol is sneaking out there. Taste is like cherry sucker with more of that vanilla malt ,and a smooth alcohol and slightly sweet finish. Taste is a little bitter in finish,so you can;t sip it to fast, which is just the way the monks wanted it. An absolute treat LordCorkscrew (984), Ronco Scrivia (GE), Italy
