DerBiermeister (374), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Aug 23, 2004 This beer makes me want to sing ’Let’s Get It On’ to it. Because drinking you can never be wrong, with a beer so true... I don’t see anything wrong with this beer. Its taste is smooth and full of a spicy cloves, bread and cinnamon and maybe some bananas too. It’s got a 10% ABV but it doesn’t taste like it. It’s just a very pleasant and warm (I had it around room remperature to bring out the tastes and complexities). Well, until I find something wrong with this beer I’ll leave it with a perfect rating I think. aenimopiate (125), The United States of Texas, Texas, USA Jul 28, 2006 Updated: Oct 15, 2007Wow, I really like the smell and taste of this beer. It has heavy overtones of fruits in both. As previously stated, there is really no head to speak of, but that’s not really a quality I care about when dealing with a trappist beer. I enjoy and recommend this beer. arhythmt (67), USA Sep 24, 2004 I feel this is the best beer in the world, or at least it becomes the best beer once it’s been aged for about 4-5 years. The last few aged bottles I’ve had were stunningly good; now that it’s rebranded as de Koenigshoeven, it should be easy to find again in the US. The taste is the same between the two labels, incidentally.
I always find the bubble gum ester to be a good way to tell whether the beer has aged long enough. While that particular flavor is good, it vanishes with age and allows the natural richness of this beer to shine through instead. Mklein818 (160), Etterbeek, Virginia, Belgium Apr 1, 2005 As good of a beer as one is ever going to find. Deep, multi-layered fruit and caramel flavors, very mild hoppiness, light carbonation, translucent amber color. I love this beer. punkeedo (378), San Antonio, Texas, USA Aug 23, 2004 As a matter of principle, I am forced to give this beer a 19 overall. Were I to esatblish this beer a 20, t’would not leave room for expansion. But, dang, if this ain’t the best beer I’ve ever had. Bought it at a packatge store in Georgia, and boy, did it pay off. A smooth dark beer that does not overwhelm your tastebuds at all. The taste is so complex and complete, it reminds me of a symphony. If you took the best characteristics of your favorite porter (like Anchor Porter) and your favorite ale, combined those into this quadrupel-ly fermented pleasentry, you’d have a happy time. So, go buy this. And then drink it. Because it’s good.
