Nice aroma of plums and pears. Dark amber with a one-finger head that lingers. Carbonated, full-bodied mouthfeel. Fruit taste hits first but has a strong alcohol aftertaste. Alcohol is way more obvious than with the Belgium Trappists ales. A good beer but not as good as the Belgium beers. I would drink it again.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with a beige head that quickly diminishes to a ring around the top. Aroma is fruity and a little boozy with notes of malt, raisins, rum, figs and stone fruit. Flavour has notes of caramel, chocolate, sultanas, raisins and toast as well as a strong hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a long sweetish finish including a slight alcohol presence. Despite the noticeable alcohol it is not offensive and does not get in the way of the flavour. Overall a quite impressive quad that is easily worthy of comparison with the other Belgian trappist abts.

Pours dark amber with a huge foamy and creamy head with good retention. Appealing aroma of dark malts, honey, cherry and caramel. Taste is wonderfully rich, moderately sweet, slightly bitter, and of fruits, spice, caramel and chocolate. Has a slight alcohol edge to it, but it doesn’t get annoying. Good carbonation and very smooth, creamy texture. Very warm, sweet finish. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from Corks, Bristol. Chestnut/red in colour with a tight, moderate, off-white head. Plenty of carbonation. Sweet, caranel and red fruit aroma, with some yeast and alcohol spirit. Flavours were big and very sweet, with toffee, nuts, cherries, grassy hops and bitter finish. Alcohol was over-prominent throughout. Ok.

Small bottle, poured into their chalice . Reddish amber. Apples, berries and barely-ripe stone fruit. Fresh bread, earth, grass. Mellow. The alcohol is quite prominent but not offensively so. The carbonation is soft. The finish is persistently bitter and complex. I was ready to hate this, but I think I’ll go and get some to put away for a while.
